Preparing To Curl Your Hair With a Flat Iron Hair Straightener
ONE: Start with Hair Clean and Dry.
It is necessary to start with well cleaned and dry hair. Ensure your hair has been washed at least within past 24 hrs and properly dried. This is because the more damp or wet your hair is the more difficult it will be to curl and dirty hair wont hold shape for long either.
NOTE: If you use a blow-dryer try to use a hair mousse. This would give your hair extra volume and make it look more full and thick as you curl and style.

TWO: Curl Hair With The Right Flat Iron Straightener
For best results and ease of styling, your hair straightener should between about 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm) in width from its plate to the handle and come with rounded edges so it can form smooth curls easily.
This is also necessary so you can hold and work with the iron for longer without pains and fatigue.
- Ensure you’re using a good quality flat iron straightener. The best Flat Irons make your work faster, deliver smoother hair curls and do little or no damage to your hair unlike the poor-quality irons. The quality of iron you use will also impact your hair shine and the consistency of curls made.
NOTE: For the best results we recommend TellGrade Hair Straightener and Curler 2 in 1 with Smart Prof-Flow Care that massages your hair for better shine and strength as it boost your hair’s natural collagen production giving you over 60% better and stronger shine and curl.
- Using TellGrade Flat Iron, heat up iron to minimum temperature required for your hair with a single turn of the rotary dial heat selector at the end of iron. For fine and thin hair, use the low end of the heat selector dial keeping below 300 degrees, while for normal hair you can use between 300 to 380 degrees. Only turn dial between 350 to 400 for thick, coarse, or frizzy hair.

2. If your using a TellGrade Hair Straightener, it comes with automatic protection for your hair with its hair massaging components.
NOTE
- For thick hair, spray on each section of your making sure you hit the bottom hair layers.
- Comb out hair tangles.

FOUR: Separate Hair into Multiple Sections.
For ease of handling, its best to part your hair into small individual sections. The thicker your hair, the more the sections you’ll have to make. So pick out the section you want to work on and tie the rest of your hair up into a bun on your head to get it out of the way.
- Set aside enough sections for your first layer of curls. Start at the bottom of your hair near your scalp working with 1 to 3 inches of hair at a time for best results. Leave the rest of your hair rolled up in a bun onto your head.
- For layer symmetry, work layer by layer, only letting down a layer at a time to work on.

Try Different Styling Techniques
ONE: Use Flicks and Curls
There are two prominent methods to curl your hair with a flat iron, namely; Flicks and curls. The two methods are similar with only slight differences. The aim here is to try both and see which is best for you.
- Flicks Method: This requires you begin mid-way down the length of your hair. Using TellGrade Flat Iron Curler, clamp your hair mid-length and turn it back on itself making a half turn. This should form a U‑shape with your hair and the flat iron. Hold the flat iron at that half-turn angle, then the slowly start moving the iron down your hair shaft till you reach the tip of your hair. Note that the faster you move the flat iron down your hair, the less pronounced the resulting flick will be, so for bigger flicks slow down your pull on the iron.
- Curls Method: Here you start as close as possible to the base of your hair without burning your self. Clamp your TellGrade flat iron close on a section of your hair and turn it half clockwise similar to the flicks method, now run your flat iron slowly down the entire length of your hair. Similar to the flicks the slower you run your flat iron down the length of your hair the more closely packed the resulting curl will be making your curl look tighter, the reverse is also true to result in gentler curls.

TWO: Make Your Curls More Pronounced
To get more pronounced curls, turn your hair straightener a full circle, rather than half. To get more ringlet type circular curl results, you have to rotate the iron with your clamped hair a full turn, turning your hair over with it in a loop. This is going further than the flicks and curls methods were you just rotated the flat iron hair straightener a half turn.
Remember, how much of a turn you make all depends on how you like your hair and the results your pursuing. Its best to test different cycles and see what works best for you.

THREE: Experiment To Find What Works For You
Rotating your flat iron, in half or a full-rotation, creates a situation were you can turn your flat iron under and around or you have to go over and around. Any way you go is correct with the only impact, being the reverse or change in angle of your resulting curl or wave. You’ll have to choose which is best for you.
NOTE:
- Consistency: Its necessary to be consistent to maintain symmetry between curls of each hair layer. Note that when you switch hands you also switch resulting curl directions, too.
- Style: Alternating curl directions can sometimes look great when done well and intentionally but this must also be done in a consistent pattern all through.
FOUR: Try Old School
You might want to go old school flat waves. To achieve this, clamp your TellGrade flat iron straightener down on a section of hair and turn it up in a half turn. After this, clamp the next hair section with your flat iron and turn it down a half turn. This technique results in flat waves, similar to a finger wave.
NOTE: The difference between flat waves and curls is that for flat waves you clamp down on the entire length of hair but with curling, you curl at the top and then slowly drag your flat iron down as if curling a ribbon

Must Know While Curling Your Hair

ONE: Try Some Hair Spray
In case your hair does not curl easily or it doesn’t hold a curl, you need to apply hairspray on your hair sections just before you start curling the section. Applying a little a hairspray just before curling will help your hair hold shape better.
NOTE:
- Use non-aerosol working spray to avoid the sticky nature of aerosols.
- Avoid using too hairspray, because it will make your hair stiff and crunchy.

TWO: Working With Hair Sections
The amount of hair in each section of hair depends on you, taking into consideration your type of hair, the style your trying to make and generally how much you can handle in one go conveniently.
NOTE:
- The smaller the sections, the smaller and more tightly packed the curls obtained. For ringlet type curls, your sections should be less than two inches wide.
- The larger sections, the bouncier and more loosely packed the curls obtained. So for bigger curls your sections should be more than two inches wide, this makes your curls look more natural.
- Explore. You can try different sizes for different sides to create something more unique to you. For example, you can use larger curls for areas close to your face through to the top of your head to give lift and volume, and then use tighter, smaller curls below for support. Play with diffrent combinations to find the one that suits you best.
THREE: Vary Your Techniques
It is best to play with above methods to see which is best for you. All the methods share the same underlining principle wherewith you turn your hair straightener over itself, and then gently and slowly slide it down your hair. Ensure you clamp your hair properly keeping it on the straightener plates, making sure its not too tight to allow for sliding the straightener along your hair and yet not to lightly to allow your hair fall out of the clamp
NOTE:
- Alternate between where you start to curl your hair (towards base or towards the tip), Speed with which you move the flat iron (fast or slow) and how much you rotate your TellGrade flat iron hair straightener (half or full rotation) to give you different results from which you can select your perfect look.
- To obtain a more natural look, you don’t have to curl your entire hair. Leaving a few hair strand straighter than others or just wavy give you a natural, beach wave look.

Four: Finishing Up
After curling, you can do this:
- loose curls: For a more natural relaxed look, run your fingers through your finished hair gently and tousle it to give you a little more volume.
- Tight curls: Apply hairspray sparingly on your curls to help your hair maintain a sleek and tight look.
